On December 20, 2015, the Filipino community in Hawaii along with state leaders celebrated the first Sakada Day in Hawaii. Living Sakadas were honored at the event along with their families.
Philippine National Artist Benedicto Cabrera aka “BenCab” presented a painting of the Sakadas to be displayed at the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu.
Emme Tomingbang presented a moving documentary, an edited version of her work, Mabuhay with Aloha.
The Sakada Bill measure was introduced by Rep. John Mizuno at the urging of Consul General Gina Jamoralin of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu.
Event chairpersons, Amelia Casamina Cabatu and Joje May Besario Mizuno, championed the event to the Filipino community.
